Frequently asked questions about Specialty Coffee Guatemala

What does Guatemala Huehuetenango taste like?

This is our most complex coffee. In its flavour profile, you'll find subtle floral, honey, lime, orange notes and delicate cherry accents. The body is juicy and syrupy—full-bodied. The acidity is bright but well-balanced with sweetness. This is a coffee that delights with its multidimensionality—each sip reveals something new.

Why does Guatemala have 85 SCA points?

85 SCA points is an outstanding score – placing this coffee in the highest specialty segment. This means zero defects, perfect flavor balance, and a complex sensory profile. For comparison: the specialty threshold is 80 points, and supermarket coffees are usually not even subjected to this evaluation. This is our highest-rated coffee.

How to brew Guatemala coffee for the best taste?

Guatemala is grateful in brewing - it tastes great both in espresso (thick crema, syrupy body) and in pour-over methods (dripper, Chemex - they bring out fruity and floral notes). For espresso, grind finely, temperature 92°C. For a dripper - medium grind, 93-96°C. It will also give a good result in a moka pot - a strong and complex brew.

How does Guatemala differ from Brazil and Ethiopia?

Guatemala is somewhere in between – more complex than Brazil, but less acidic than Ethiopia. It has a syrupy body (like Brazil) with fruity notes (like Ethiopia). If Brazil is "comfort" and Ethiopia is "adventure", Guatemala is the "golden mean" – a balanced harmony of all elements.

Where does this coffee come from?

From the Huehuetenango region in northwestern Guatemala, at an altitude of 1500-1800 m above sea level. Hot winds from the Mexican Tehuantepec protect the plantations from frost, allowing cultivation at high altitudes. The varieties are Bourbon, Catuai, and Caturra – valued for their flavor complexity. The beans are hand-roasted in Karpacz.

Is Guatemala suitable for milk coffees?

Yes, and it's excellent! The syrupy body and honey-like sweetness of Guatemala really shine through the milk. Cappuccinos and lattes made with this coffee have a complex, multi-dimensional flavor with fruity notes — a completely different league than typical espresso. We also recommend it for a flat white.

Is this coffee suitable as a gift?

Absolutely—it's our highest-rated coffee (85 SCA), making it a perfect gift for someone who appreciates quality. Each package features a wax seal with a magnet. For a more substantial gift, we recommend our gift sets.
